The AVID Elective is more than just a class—it’s a powerful driver of schoolwide change when intentionally supported and understood by leadership. This session invites school leaders to explore what high-quality AVID Elective instruction looks and sounds like, how it reflects AVID’s core values, and why it should be a central focus within a school’s strategic goals.
Participants will analyze key instructional and cultural elements present in a thriving AVID Elective class and learn how to observe, support, and leverage the Elective as a model for Tier 1 instruction, student agency, and college and career readiness. Leaders will engage in practice using observation samples, aligned feedback tools, and planning strategies to strengthen AVID implementation and elevate the Elective’s role in school wide systems.
